Homeowners say they have asked the city for a better system, but say nothing is being done. Tallulah Mayor Eddie Beckwitch says efforts are in the works to improve the drainage in the city, but funding from FEMA has yet to come through to help pay for the project.
Earl Pinckney of the Madison Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness says the issue of drainage needs to be addressed and the current system is not equipped to hold this amount of water at one time. Between Tuesday and Thursday, six and half inches of rain fell over Madison Parish.
Pinckney also says that assessments are still being completed to determine if a state of emergency should also be declared.
