The U.S. Attorney's office has sentenced 61-year-old James Lamar Kelly of Sikes to 41 months in prison for shooting at a National Guard helicopter.
Sikes was found guilty last year of endangering the safety of the pilot of a guardsman in flight, committing an act of violence against the pilot, and using a deadly and dangerous weapon to forcibly assault the pilot.
Authorities say the incident happened as state police and the National Guard were conducting aerial surveillance during a marijuana eradication program detail in Winn Parish.
Kelly was also sentenced for "theft of mail".
When he was arrested investigators also found stacks of mail that Kelly had not delivered in several years.
