MONROE -- Monroe Police have arrested a 21-year old for 2nd degree attempted murder.

The investigation began on Christmas Eve with a drive-by shooting that left one person seriously injured.

According to the police report, throughout the police investigation, witnesses indicated that Deon Thompson and three other suspects were driving in a four door sedan as it passed in front of a group of people.

As the vehicle passed, shots were fired from the passenger side of the vehicle and into the crowd.

The suspects were arrested without incident and after interviews with them, police say it was learned that Thompson was the suspect who fired the weapon.

When brought in for questioning, police say he confessed to shooting the weapon into the crowd with a .380 caliber handgun.

Police say he also confessed to later throwing away the gun in the Ouachita River in an attempt to destroy any evidence from the crime.

A criminal history inquiry also shows that Thompson is a convicted felon and restricted from possessing a weapon. He past convictions include theft, burglary and battery.

He's currently held in OCC with no bond, charged with 2nd degree attempted murder, assault by drive-by shooting, possession of a fire arm by a felon, obstruction of justice, and criminal conspiracy.
