The Girl Scouts of Louisiana decide to officially close down two camps in Northeast Louisiana.

The Pines to the Gulf Volunteer Board of Directors voted to close both Indian Creek Camp near Chatham and Pine Wood Camp near Sterlington on May 1, 2013 to pursue the sale of the properties. The board says the decision is part of a three-year evaluation into the camps.

They say by closing the two camps, they will be able to focus efforts on developing the two remaining camps, one of which in the south half of the state and one in the north half.

Local troop leaders, like Dana Littleton say the fight is not over.

"What I would like to do now is ask the community to come together and help us and maybe make donations and help us try to keep these camps," says Littleton, who is a troop co-leader and the Region Chair.

She and a group of volunteers say they are willing to run the camp and have even expressed interest in buy the property.
