WEST MONROE -- A man is in jail after a suspected hit and run and leading the victim on a car chase.

Justin Allen, 21, was involved in a traffic crash on Nachitoches Street and Cotton Street in West Monroe.

Police say he rear ended another vehicle that was traveling south on Nachitoches St. and refused to stop at the crash, even after being waived down by the other driver.

According to the police report, Allen drove around the other driver in the grass. The victim then followed Allen while calling State Police.

Police say a state police helicopter provided air support in the area, which observed Allen drive through approximately 10 to 12 stop signs and make several U-Turns to avoid the victim.

The report says police located the vehicle on N. 9th Street. Allen was arrested on-site, and according to the report, he told officers he had too much to drink and was scared.

Allen was transported to OCC for charges of DWI 2nd, Reckless Operation, and Hit and Run. Toxicology samples were taken as well.
