Union Parish Sheriff's Office Applicant Arrested for Burglary

UNION PARISH -- A Farmerville woman who had applied for a job with the Union Parish Sheriff's Office ended up being arrested for simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.
Laken Virginia Smith, 18, was arrested Saturday and booked into the Union Parish Detention Center. Her bond was set at $4,600.
Detectives had been investigating a burglary on Camp Road near Farmerville beginning January 20 and had developed Smith as a possible suspect.
Smith was read her Miranda rights before being questioned and admitted to detectives that she forced open a door on a mobile home. After entering, Smith said she removed a drawer from the chest that contained some $200 in coins.
She did not get the job.
