Grambling Honors Local Legends

GRAMBLING -- Community leaders were honored at a luncheon on Tuesday at Grambling State University.
University officials presented awards to several local community leaders for their contributions to Grambling and the surrounding areas.
Grambling Mayor Edward Jones and Velana Lane were awarded for their community service within the Lincoln Parish School System.
Also honored was Grambling football legend and current coach Doug Williams. Dr. Lamore Carter was the honoree of the Kara Vaughn Jackson education award for his dedicated service to the academic affairs department at Grambling.
Posthumously, Calvin A. Wilkerson received the Madame C.J. Walker Business Award for having the oldest and most successful black owned business in the state of Louisiana.
In all, six people were honored at Tuesday's luncheon.
