Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown says Jonesboro Mayor Leslie Thompson has been arrested on three counts of malfeasance in office. He is out on $15,000 bond and awaiting arraignment. The arrest affidavit has not been made available, so it's unclear what's behind the charges.
Last summer, a district court judge appointed a fiscal administrator to try to straighten out the town's foggy finances, but he ended up walking off the job just months later.
This is not Thompson's first run-in with the law. In October of 2011, he was charged with battery after allegedly shoving Jonesboro Alderwoman Renee Stringer at a concert.
Thompson and all of the Aldermen were contacted for comments on the case, but none of them returned our calls.
