Facelift for Salvation Army Will Bring Hope to the Community
Last June the Salvation Army in Monroe welcomed a new leader. Since then the charity group has been going through some upgrades.

Once a week Idalia Gallot meets at the Salvation Army for her women's ministry group..
"We have fellowship education worship and service," says Gallot.
Thursday's topic--first aid . The group taught by Lieutenant Jerry Williams. Williams took command of the Salavation Army in Monroe in June. Since then he has given the facility some big upgrades.
"We're trying to get it to where a person comes into our building and can feel a difference and that hope is there for them," says Williams.
From sprucing up the church with new paint, carpet, media, and seating; to adding lockers and updating the shelter.
"We don't want people to be looking over your shoulder and making sure their safety is in jeopardy," says Williams.
The facility has also added security cameras and training for staff. The Salvation Army is also adding new programs and expanding their outreach.
One program really hopes to see take off is "Keeping Families at the Table." This will require shelves salvation army to be stocked.
"Those families that have to chose between rent and food that month. I want to be able to offer a place for them to come for that food," says Williams.
The organization's generosity will become more widespread as is moves deeper into rural areas in Northeast Louisiana.
"We're expanding into Union, Jackson, East Carroll and other parishes. We'll expand our back to school programs, our food drives, and Angel Tree programs," Williams
