The Town of Ferriday will soon be without garbage collection.
Mayor Gene Allen says his town is having trouble meeting its financial obligations with Waste Management.
The Town of Ferriday owes Waste Management over $200,000.

Here's the state Mayor Allen released on the Town of Ferriday website:

Citizens of the Town of Ferriday, I, Mayor Gene Allen would like to take this time to first
off apologize for the current situation involving the garbage collection for the Town of Ferriday. My office does understand that frustration levels are high but we assure you that this situation is being resolved as quickly as possible. Second, we would like to take the time to try to answer some of the questions that have been asked concerning this situation.

Is garbage being collected this week?

Garbage will be picked up by Waste Management throughout the weekend until all garbage is collected.

Why is the garbage/trash cans being picked up?

The large containers used by most customers are the property of Waste Management and will be collected upon final collection of the garbage.

Why is the Town's garbage no longer being collected?

Unfortunately over the past 2 years, the Town of Ferriday has had difficulty meeting financial obligations of the contract with Waste Management.

Upon this administration (Allen Administration) taking office on July 1, 2012, the Town of Ferriday owed WM a sum of $200,616.51. This amount is taken from Inv. #2165316-0376-1 date 7/1/2012.

My administration has continued to meet the monthly obligations according to the contract, however with the financial condition of the Town we were not able to meet the Payment arrangement requested by WM.

What are the plans for the Town of Ferriday?

The town is currently working with the Board of Alderman to implement an emergency plan of action until a more defenitive agreement can be met.

As Mayor I once again regret that the citizens of this Town have had to bear the brunt of a situation that has been ablaze for well over 2 years. My office is available to answer any questions between the hours of 8a.m. and 4p.m. Monday-Friday.
