WEST MONROE -- Police arrest a man and woman for drug charges, after the two lead police on a high-speed car chase through the Twin Cities that ends in Forsythe Park.
It started around 11 p.m. Friday night on South 5th Street and Coleman Avenue in West Monroe, when West Monroe Police tried to make a routine traffic stop on a vehicle for making a left turn with no signal and having no working license plate lights, according to the police report.
The car did not stop, and a pursuit went into Monroe city limits where the driver eventually crashed at Forsythe Park. The report says during the pursuit, the driver was going the wrong way on one-way streets, traveling against the flow of traffic, running several stop signs, and exceeding the speed limit by 25 miles per hour.
After the crash at the park, the driver, 38-year old John Robertson from Arkansas and passenger Stephanie Boyd, 25, of Bastrop, got out of the car and fled.
The police report says when Robertson fled, he dropped a camera case, turned around and picked it up and ran -- he then threw the bag into the woods.
That bag was found by police. The report says it contained bags of methamphetamine and marijuana, cotton balls, a syringe, a digital scale, a credit card, and 73 empty plastic bags.
The report says it appears both suspects were involved in street-level sale of meth.
Police tased Robertson two times and said he would not follow any verbal commands given by officers. Boyd was found hiding in a creek along the Ouachita River.
Boyd and Robertson were booked in OCC for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting an officer.
Robertson was had additional charges of aggravated flight from an officer, obstruction of justice and switched tags.
