NBC NEWS -- A new federal report is raising questions about the safety of regional airlines.
The Transportation Department's Inspector General says the Federal Aviation Administration is "not" ensuring that major airlines hold their smaller partners to the same safety standards.
After a deadly crash involving a regional carrier near Buffalo, New York in 2009, the FAA promised to encourage big airlines to share safety information with regional airlines.
But the report says the FAA has failed to live up to its promise.
