First Lady Ginger Beebe To Join Anti-Hunger Advocates

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - First Lady Ginger Beebe will join the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, national child anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength, State Senator Bobby Pierce, State Senator Missy Irvin and education leaders from across the state on Wednesday, February 27 at 11:30 a.m. at the Arkansas State Capitol to discuss findings from a recent study on the long-term impacts associated with children participating in the School Breakfast Program.
The analysis, "Ending Childhood Hunger: A Social Impact Analysis," which was conducted in collaboration with Share Our Strength and Deloitte, shows there are dramatic potential impacts associated with the simple act of feeding kids a healthy school breakfast, including positive, large-scale outcomes in education, economics and health. The study will also include Arkansas-specific data showing the impact of school breakfast on test scores, attendance and graduation rates.
Leaders will also discuss innovative ways in which the Arkansas No Kid Hungry campaign, a partnership between the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, the Office of Governor Mike Beebe and Share Our Strength, is connecting more kids to the school breakfast program. In Arkansas, just over half of students who ate a free or reduced-price school lunch during the 2011-2012 school year also participated in the School Breakfast Program (55%).
