Updated: February 26, 2013
As part of its reorganizational efforts, Keep West Monroe Beautiful will launch a "green" reading initiative in West Monroe elementary schools.
KWMB will present copies of the book "The Quad Squad in: Be Smart ... Do Your Part!" to all second grade grade students in City of West Monroe elementary schools.
The book distribution will launch Keep West Monroe Beautiful's efforts to reorganize and become active once again in the community.
The initial book distribution will take place on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Highland Elementary School, located at 1501 Wellerman Road in West Monroe.
KWMB committee members will be in attendance to read the book aloud to students. During this event, the new Keep West Monroe Beautiful affiliate coordinator and chairman will be introduced. In addition, plans will be discussed for the community-wide cleanup, known as the "Great American Cleanup," which will be held on Saturday, March 9.
"The Quad Squad in: Be Smart ... Do Your Part!" teaches children the importance of litter abatement, beautification and conservation. The book was written by Cindy G. Foust under the direction of the Rotary Club of Monroe. The project was made possible through a grant from Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
For more information about this event, please contact Courtney Hornsby at the West Monroe-West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce at (318) 325-1961.
