MONROE -- It was a packed house Saturday night for the opening reception of a show at the Masur Museum of Art.

The 50th Annual Juried Competition kicked off Saturday evening, with juror George T.M. Shackelford -- he's the deputy director at the Kimbell Museum of Art in fort worth and a Morehouse Parish native.

"It's such a great pleasure to be back in north Louisiana," said Shackelford. "I'm from here and it gave such a good chance for me to come back and jury this competition of works of art by artists from really all over the country."

The show features 41 contemporary artists and 76 works from across the country.

"We're proud to announce we had over 860 entries, different artists from all over the country. 40 states were represented in this show," said Sue Sartor, president of the Masur Board of Directors.

Also Saturday night was the 28th Annual Northeast Louisiana Arts Council Awards. KTVE-KARD was nominated for the Bard Award -- honoring those supporting the arts community in the area. Creed and Creed won that award for their support in the arts.

You have plenty of time to check out the juried show -- It runs until June 8th. For more information, click here.
