Student Brings Loaded Gun to Madison James Foster Elementary School

Monroe Police say the student was trying to trade the loaded gun for a video game.

Monroe Police say an 8-year-old brought a loaded gun to Madison James Foster Elementary School this morning.
School officials acted on a tip that the student was in possession of a handgun. They found a .22 caliber pistol in the book bag of an 8 year old male student.
The school official took the student and the book bag to the office and removed the threat from the common areas of the school.
Monroe Police were notified and responded immediately and took custody of the firearm and the student.
The student is to be expelled from the school per school policy. The student was released to the custody of his parents because the age of the offender does not meet the age of culpability in this state.
This incident is being investigated by Monroe Police Detectives and a report will be forwarded to the District Attorney's office.
Monroe Police is commending the fast and professional response of the school officials, especially in regards to acting on all information that promotes and ensures school safety.
