MONROE -- Monroe city officials, Century Link employees and the Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal gathered on Monday for the ground breaking ceremony of Northeast Louisiana's largest and the nation's third largest telecommunication company.

"The reason we'll be able to grow is because of the dedication, hard work and commitment of family employees by the grace of God," said Glen Post CenturyLink President. "We continue to grow this company and we hope to grow this company for many years to come."

Scheduled for completion in 2014 and operation in 2015, Century Link officials say the 250,000 square foot Technology Center will produce new projects in a cutting edge environment.

"Century Link has become the third largest telecommunications company in the country based right here in Monroe," said Gov. Jindal. "Today is a great day for Northeast Louisiana and our entire state. Century Link is one of Louisiana's greatest success stories, and we're proud that they chose to build on that success by capitalizing on our strong business climate and expanding their headquarters here at home."

With advanced communication, information technology, and data services, company officials say the expansion will allow for great research opportunities while growing the local economy and creating jobs.

CenturyLink says the expansion will create over 800 new jobs.
