Jonesboro Mayor Pleads Not Guilty of Malfeasance Charges

Jonesboro Mayor Leslie Thompson pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning to three counts of malfeasance in office.
Thompson was arrested and charged with misappropriation of funds by making payments to the retirement system for workers who were not full-time and therefore ineligible, making payments to payments to blue cross blue shield for employees not full-time, and employees no longer working for Jonesboro and failing to keep sufficient town records and provide documents to the legislative auditor's office in a timely manner between 2008 and 2011.
Thompson was arrested in February but later released on a $15,000 bond.
Meanwhile, the findings of an investigative report on the town of Jonesboro by the legislative auditor's office are still pending.
An August 26 trial date has been set.
