A woman accused of theft in connection with a local charity is out of the hospital and in jail.
Stacey Mewborn is a co-founder of 'Little Angels of Northeast Louisiana.' Morehouse Parish deputies say she is now in jail on a probation hold from Tennessee. She is charged with theft and conspiracy -- along with her husband, a former Morehouse Parish deputy.
The investigation -- conducted by state police -- started after a complaint concerning unaccounted for funds raised by the charity, whose mission was to assist families of children diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder. Authorities say the investigation revealed about $4,000 was unaccounted for.
The Dickson County, Tennessee Clerk of Court says in 2008 Stacey Mewborn took nearly $60,000 from her employer "Express Personnel." Court officials say she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 6 years. But that was suspended and she was placed on probation. The court says she still owes nearly $40,000 in restitution from the Tennessee case.
