This is an improvement from a 12th place ranking in the fourth quarter of 2012. The study uses a 16-point system to rank tourism marketing organizations which includes examining each agency's use of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Google + and Flickr.
"We take our social media marketing efforts as seriously as our traditional marketing efforts," Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne said. "More people than ever before are using online forums such as Facebook and Twitter to make their travel decisions."
The Louisiana Travel Facebook and Twitter page has more than 126,000 likes and more than 13,000 followers respectively.
Think! Social Media has been publishing quarterly studies of state tourism social media efforts since July 2009. The 2013 first-quarter study was conducted during a 4-day period in the first week of February.
