A ULM student along with her friend were hauled away to jail this morning when police say they found a gun in her dorm room. The arrest comes as lawmakers are about to hit the house floor. In April, they will discuss giving students the right to arm themselves on campus.

20 year old ULM student Shekelia Hives along with her friend Tiffany Bledsoe were taken to jail early this morning. During a theft investigation, police searched the student's room here at Masur Hall, that's when officers found a loaded gun. And police say revenge was on the girls' minds. While they sat in the patrol car, they were recorded saying quote, "When we get out of jail, we got something for her".

This is the latest in at least three incidents involving guns on campus in the past year. Six months ago, ULM basketball player Regena Jackson allegedly fired shots during an altercation with her girlfriend. Then six months before that, a non-student walks into a crowded campus library with a bb gun. But most students say they feel safe on campus. Throughout the year, ULM police utilize more than 150 cameras to keep an eye on any unusual activity. ULM Police Chief Larry Ellerman says for the size of the campus, they have a low amount of instances involving guns. Making Hives' arrest last night, a rare occurrence.
