Tough Road To a Green Card & the American Dream

The American dream. It's something millions are trying to achieve. But for many, the road to living in America isn't easy. For millions, the struggle just to get a green card is very real. It can take many years as it drains bank accounts in the process. As a NBC 10 News photographer, Chang Howang has spent the past seven years bringing stories to life with video. But for seven years, he has also struggled just to stay here.

After migrating from Seoul, Korea -- Chang has filed an endless amount of paper work. And has spent more than 20 thousand dollars, in the hopes of getting a green card. But in a post 9/11 world, it's a harsh reality for many immigrants. but today, after years of perseverance, Chang finally qualified for his green card. Chang says he never thought this moment would come. But now with this small piece of plastic, Chang says both he and his kids can now live the American dream. Chang says the next step for him is becoming a US citizen. So he can cast his first vote.
