VILLE PLATTE, La. (AP) - A woman accused of selling two children who were in her care to an Evangeline Parish couple in exchange for an exotic bird and $175 was denied a reduction in her $100,000 bond, according to the parish Clerk of Court's Office.

An attorney for 53-three-year-old Donna Greenwell, of Pitkin, had sought a bond reduction during a hearing Tuesday in Ville Platte.

Attorney Timmy Fontenot says Greenwell did not sell the 5-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl but was merely trying to find them a good home. The couple who allegedly bought the children are also booked in the case and are out on $5,000 bond apiece. They await an arraignment in April.

The children were placed in state custody after the arrests. Their mother had placed them in Greenwell's care about a year ago.
