Monroe's Blighted Houses Follow-up

Our story yesterday on Monroe's blighted houses caused a public outcry. Now more residents have come forward. They say the city has taken too long to tear down abandoned houses in their neighborhood. But now they're getting action -- in the form of a million dollar state grant. Scott McMullen says he's been in a three year battle with the city. For the past 10 years this house next door to his has been abandoned and filled with asbestos. He says the house is used by drug dealers and wants answers.
Tom Janway with Monroe's public works says it takes a lot of effort to get abandoned houses like McMullen's problem torn down. From checking air quality, to asbestos removal to meeting legal requirements. Janway says the abandoned house that has bothered McMullen for so long should be demolished next week, along with 7 others. And when the grant money kicks in, McMullen should see even more old houses go down and new ones go up.
