Grambling Follow-up

By: Rudy Williams
Updated: April 21, 2009
The Grambling City Council called an emergency meeting to inform residents of the citys latest worry--missing money. Grambling council members say the responsible person is Mayor Martha Andrus. They told citizens that Andrus wrote checks and payouts from the Citys account to the sum of more than 35 thousand dollars; A revelation that came just this week. City officials say the missing money went to one person, Elizabeth Jones a city hall employee. The payments range from office supplies to a car. Thats whats got citizens mad. Dr. Jean Porter asked citizens to stand in support of putting the mayor on leave with pay. She said it would allow for a thorough investigation to be completed, but it could be the first step in removing Andrus from office. A motion was made to fire Elizabeth Jones effective Wednesday morning, the same day the Mayor gets their letter.
