El Dorado Police say the number of car break-ins is at an all time high. But what they are finding is most cars are either unlocked or valuables are left in plain sight. They are even finding keys left in the cars.
Captain David Smith of the El Dorado Police Department said, “They are creating a perfect opportunity for a criminal to come by at his discretion and take advantage of the situation.”
Police say if you have to leave valuables in your car, your trunk is your best bet.
El Dorado Police say they were sent out to about 36 calls in a 24 hour time span last Thursday. El Dorado residents are shocked by the high numbers.
Demonica White of El Dorado said, “Dang! It’s like El Dorado ain’t safe no more.”
Raphfel Dangelo was stunned by the numbers, “36 calls in 24 hours!! That is just soooo… man!”
And Kenneth Dillion said, “That’s pretty bad, scary, I’ve got kids, can’t get too much rest anymore these days.”
And police want to remind you, don’t leave valuables where others can see them, take your purse inside or lock it in the trunk. And most importantly--- always, lock your car.
In the meantime investigators say they find your car unlocked you will be alerted no matter what time it is.
Captain Smith said, “We need the public to assist us—we don’t want to wake people up at 2 am but we will to get those valuables secure.”
