NAACP, Family and Citizens Gather For 73 Year Old Gunned Down By Police

Family and concerned citizens met with the NAACP today at a church in Homer. At the same time, they learned that the DA is taking matters into his own hands. Bernard Monroe was 73 years old when he was gunned down by police in his front yard in February. Police say they were investigating a drug deal and that they thought Monroe had a weapon. But witnesses say Monroe was unarmed when he was shot and killed, in front of 8 children, family and friends. Monroe was black, the officer who shot him, white. The shooting led to protests in Homer, including one led by the Reverend Al Sharpton. The NAACP talked with residents today about allegations of harassment and racial profiling in Homer. Just last week, state police presented the results of their investigation to the district attorney, and now the DA is promising his own investigation.
