The 2 alarm fire started around 8:30 Tuesday evening. Fire fighters say the fire started in the carport. Inside the house, just a few feet away, were Ledevia Conway and her two little sisters.

Conway said, "I was in my room getting my clothes together for school and my sisters were in the room with me." Conway says at that point she had no idea the carport was in flames.

Conway said, "The man was driving by and he knocked on the door and was like do y'all know your house was on fire and I was like no sir, and he was like y'all need to get out the house right now."

Ledevia grabbed her two little sisters, ran out the house and called her dad.

Robert Maxi is Ladevia's father and he said, "I went to the Cracker Barrel and the gas station to get some bread and I got a phone call saying the house was on fire."

Maxi sped home and found out his kids were safe because of a stranger's random act of kindness. But, he says the hero didn't just save his children, he also tried to save their house.

Maxi said, "He grabbed this water hose right here thinking he was gonna put this fire out from the house and he didn't stand a chance but it's just an honor that he tried."

The fire took everything the Maxi's owned except for their lives and for that, they're grateful.

Maxi said, "If I had a million dollars that wouldn't be even a down payment on the effort to pay this man for what he did."
