A Mississippi man was crushed to death in Caldwell Parish Thursday.

Investigators say a crew was working on a natural gas pipeline when the man was crushed by his own tractor.

Caldwell parish deputies say a company called Price-Gregory has been working on the new pipeline near Vixon for months.

But this afternoon the project in Caldwell parish turned deadly.

A 34 year old man was crushed between two machines.

Price-Gregory has used bulldozers and heavy machinery to build this new pipeline near Vixon in Caldwell Parish for months.

But it's these two trackhoes that Caldwell Parish Sheriff Steve May says cost a 34 year old Mississippi man his life.

"You never expect something like this, two men doing their daily work, and I'm sure they're safe men but you never expect something like this would happen," said May

Deputies say the man was outside changing an oil filter on his trackhoe. A worker operating the other trackhoe didn't see the man, crushing him to death in the machine.

"And as he turned his trackhoe, that's what pinned him in between the machines," said May.

Sheriff May says the name of the victim is not being released until the family has been notified.

But he says there appears to be no foul play from the driver who was operating the machine that killed the man.

"At this point it’s being called an accident. I feel for the family and the gentleman that caused the accident, it's something he's got to live with for the rest of his life, and it’s just a tragedy."

After the accident this afternoon, the construction company shut down the project for the rest of the evening.

Sheriff May says inspectors will be coming in tomorrow to look at the accident before work resumes.
