Days ago, Polly Haynes told police her pastor inappropriately touched one of her children and worse, she continued to let him spend time with them, unsupervised.
Now, she's is changing her story.
Polly Haynes said, "That's just a lie, I just made it up. He didn't do anything to those kids. I was angry, its hard when you got to get lights and water cut on, I was angry. So I just acted and said that. "
Polly and her husband Lee Haynes were arrested for contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. Their three children have been placed in the custody of child protective services. And they say it was all based on a desperate lie that was started by one of their daughters.
Polly Haynes said, "They want stuff like other kids, clothes, shoes, jewelry and I can't afford to get that so they just got mad and when they get mad, they do stuff like this."
They say it all started when they let their kids stay with a neighbor while they tried to catch up on their utility bills. And that neighbor called child protective services. They say that's when one of their daughters accused the pastor of touching her inappropriately and Polly Haynes confirmed it. Now she says she regrets lying on her pastor, a man she says has helped her family through hard times.
Polly Haynes said, "He helped us. He buys clothes, he put a roof over our head, we're supposed to be outdoors and he kept a roof over our head."
Her husband Lee says he doesn't understand why his wife lied and is asking the pastor to forgive him and his family. Lee Haynes said,
"To see somebody, an innocent man, a pastor hurt for no reason. It hurt me. I went to jail for no reason at all, my kids made all this up."
