A line of strong storms pushed through the Arklamiss this morning. The wind packed storms left wide spread damage throughout western Ouachita Parish. Trees fell and blocked roads and knocked out power. One of the fallen trees crashed through a classroom window at Central Elementary School. Thankfully none of the students were in the class room at the time because the student’s desks were less than a foot away from the broken window. There was damage to several windows at the school and power was out. This prompted administrators to close school early. Power is expected to be restored later this even and school will be up and running by Monday.
Just a short drive from the school along highway 144 a huge oak tree fell knocking down power lines and cutting the road in half. Louisiana State Police are not sure when the tree will be cleaned up. They are urging drivers to avoid the highway until Saturday morning.
