Heavy storms made a mess in Union Parish this morning.

Now thousands are without power Friday night and are left picking up the pieces.

The community of Antioch was the hardest hit.

The Union Parish Sheriff's Office and Wildlife and Fisheries called Friday’s storm in Antioch a tornado.

The National Weather Service has not confirmed a tornado.

But there's plenty of plenty of damage for the small town to go around.

Friday night, several trees and power lines are down around homes and yards everywhere.

Union Parish Sheriff Bob Buckley says between 15 and 20 homes have minor to major damage.

Luckily only one minor injury was reported.

Power crews spent most of the evening working on power lines.

Despite the devastation residents say they are fortunate.

"There was an elderly woman that was trapped in her house and they got her out pretty quick, they had to pull her out of a window actually. This is minor compared to what happened in south Louisiana. It hits home. It hits home," said Antioch resident Jerry Hinkie.

Claiborne Electic reported at least three thousand customers without power in Union Parish.

When NBC 10 News left Antioch at 8:30 Friday night, some residents were getting power back on.

We are told the National Weather Service will survey the damage Saturday morning to determine if Friday’s storm was actually a tornado.
