Seventeen year-old Alan Michael Robinson says street gangs are ruining his neighborhood.
Alan Michael Robinson said,"We try to have a good time around here but its hard because they be out here selling drugs, fighting and sometimes shooting in the air for no reason."
Saturday afternoon police responded to the scene of a drive-by shooting at a store close to Robinson's home. Police have charged 19-year-old Erik Pleasant with six counts of attempted first degree murder. Authorities say pleasant admitted he drove the car during the gang related shooting. We tried to speak with someone at Pleasant's house But a voice from inside said no comment.
At the nearby family stop grocery store where the shooting happened, employee Larry Collins says surveillance video shows one of the suspects came inside the store around the time of the shooting.
Larry Collins said, "There was a guy bending over and I thought he was getting money out of his pocket, come to find out he was putting his gun in his pant leg."
But Collins says they locked the doors and the suspect left. A store employee says one of the victims tried to come inside the store but the door was locked so he ran outside. You can see where blood splattered along the wall and the sidewalk. Robinson says he knows gang members his age and that this incident, so close to home, reinforces his mission to change his community.
Robinson said, "Sometimes I try to be a role model to all the kids my age and tell them its not OK, losing your life is not something you want to do."
