Allison Pogue said, "My heart is racing..."

Allison Pogue is holding hands with her boyfriend's mother, Terri Canal. They, along with other friends and family members have been waiting for the moment Army Sniper John-Cody Canal would return from Iraq.

Terri Canal said, "This is our welcome home and welcome back into the families arms."

Pogue is especially anxious to reunite with her boyfriend of five years.

Allison Pogue said, "I'm so proud of him and his whole family and friends are and that's why we're all here today and it's going to be a great moment, he's going to be so surprised." Minutes after canal's flight arrived, it became clear the surprise was on Pogue.

Canal said, "Will you marry me..."

Pogue said, "Yes."

Canal's welcome home party morphed into a dream engagement for the two.

Canal said, "I've been dying to get this girl to marry me and she had no idea it was coming."

The couple met as sophomores at West Monroe High School and Pogue supported Canal during his year in Iraq.

Canal said,  "My girl here, she made sure I got everything I asked for, whether it be captain crunch or something I really needed."

It was hugs all around for the soldier who just returned home and congratulations to the newly engaged couple, ready to embark on their next mission together.
