The Ouachita Parish Coroner confirms that an elderly woman was killed when a shelf fell on top of her at the Wal-Mart in West Monroe.
86-year old Margie Davis from Columbia was shopping at the Wal-Mart on Friday when an "end cap" shelf full of holiday towels fell on her. She was raced to St. Francis Hospital, where she died Saturday from her injuries. The coroner says she died from multiple head and chest injuries.
Investigators from the coroner's office went to the store to investigate after Davis died Saturday. They say the display that fell on the woman had been removed, but that they were able to inspect it and store officials were cooperating.
