This past weekend an ArkLaMiss teen won the title of national champion in the punt, pass and kick competition in San Diego, California. More than 3.5 million kids tried but only 32 finalist made it to compete in Sundays game. 13 year old Alex Greer of El Dorado won first place in her age division and now owns bragging rights. Meet Alex Greer, she’s a national champion…. At the age of only 13. Sunday she got the chance to show off her skills, at the national punt, pass and kick championship during the halftime of the Jets and Chargers game. She was representing her favorite team, the New Orleans Saints. Greer said, “It was fun, I’ve done it since like I was 8 and I’ve only made it to New Orleans and Nashville. Never made it this far, I thought I could do it and just believed in God.” It all started when Alex went to Natchitoches to compete in a qualifying round. She won, and then headed to the Saints and Cowboys game for another round of competition. “Qualified out of 4 people in the nation, then I got to go to San Diego.” Leading up to San Diego, Alex says she practiced about once a week. “Sundays after church, went to church and mom takes big measuring tape and I just see how far I can do it.” And that practice paid off. NBC 10 asked what Alex thought she heard her name called, “It was exciting!” Now Alex is the 13-14 old year punt, pass and kick national champion!
