Good Friday is one of Christianity’s most sacred days. It is the day Christians believe Jesus died on the cross for the sins of man. Good Friday is part of a month long celebration that starts with Lent and ends on Easter Sunday.

A large crowd gathered at Forsythe Park in Monroe to celebrate Good Friday. The group participated in the ceremony “Stations of the Cross.”  It is a live action depiction of the final hours of Jesus Christ.  Christians refer to this journey as “Via Dolorosa” which is Latin for “Way of Suffering.” Although Good Friday is a celebration of death Christians do not see this day as sad.

Father Joseph “Joe” Puthuppally of St. Mathews Catholic Church spoke about people’s feelings after the ceremony.

"They were very happy that they got a chance to experience in their life, in a private way, journeying with Jesus and walking in the way of the cross.”

He also says that Christian or not, this day boils down to one thing, love.

“Christians and also non-Christians learn from Good Friday is love.  You have to love and that love has to be shown.” says Puthuppally.

Services at churches all over the Arklamiss will continue to celebrate Good Friday through out the rest of the evening.
