For many across the Ark-La-Miss today was just an extension of the holiday weekend. People spent the day off work with many using the day to shop at the mall. NBC 10 was at Pecanland Mall to find out what people did on their day off. It's the Monday after the big fourth of July holiday and for most it's an extra day off from work. "It's great to be able to have the day to do whatever you want to do as a family and we have tried to stay together as a family,” said Cathy Turner. "Great, feels good, let your hair down so I ain't got to worry about coming to work,” said Deavon Foster. But for others, it means a day of shopping; and for businesses in the mall, like City Gear, it's a day to rack in the green and push sales off the shelf. "It's rolling more because of the holiday just passed so I guess people trying to shop for the extra stuff they trying to get,” said City Gear Sales Associate Steven Turner. Steven Turner says his store decided to put up the extra sales to try to lure customers in who are trying to find something to do. "As long as its equal of less to the same price your going to get the next item for $10,” said Turner. Customer Deavon Foster says he knows all about those sales thanks to his fiancιe Warnita. "She's camera shy, she's standing over there in the corner but she's not too shy when she goes in that store though,” said Foster. Albert Venable is from South Louisiana, but is up north to work on a pipeline; but not today. "We just enjoying Monroe, the view I love this mall it's a lot bigger than back home,” said Venable. Venable like so many others who work during the week are just glad to spend it with family. "I'm just so happy in my own state and it's a lot easier that everybody can get around, I'm about 3 1/2 hours from home,” said Venable. Shopping and relaxing; it's one way to wrap up a holiday weekend.
