Terry Baugh with the Monroe Chamber of Commerce said, "Fortunately for those looking to expand and open new locations and grow this past year, Monroe was a great choice for them." Every year editors rank the top 100 job and investment announcements made in the south. They score the winner by giving 10 points to any project with more than 335 jobs and investments worth more than 66 million dollars receive 10 points.  The Monroe Metropolitan Area racked up 60 points which is the second best in the history of small markets. And deals like the new v-vehicle plant helped push the metro area over the top. Other projects that helped up the score are Garder Denver and Foster Farms.  "There are multiple economic development organizations as well as political leaders and business leaders in the region that have brought great recognition to north Louisiana." Business leaders say the honor recognizes the hard work and leadership of those living in the metro area.  And they're hoping the honor sends a strong message to prospective companies-- a message that says Ouachita and Union Parishes have the resources available to house big business.  "People realize the great infrastructure we have here with not only the highway system, the river system, the great amount of assets available in the area." Baugh says another thing that attracts new businesses to the metro area is the available workforce which he says has not been utilized in the past.
