Man Linked To Two South Monroe Shooting

Police say a man has been arrested and charged in 2 recent South Monroe shootings. At first, authorities say 38 year old Laniford Payne was arrested in connection with a shooting and robbery on Adam Street July 1. Once in custody, authorities say they discovered he was also responsible for last month’s shooting on Short Washington Street. In that incident the victim ran into the nearby Delta Mini mart and collapsed. Investigators say they matched the weapon used in both crimes and traced it back to Payne. Payne now faces charges including armed robbery, and two counts of attempted second degree murder.
