Of all the wild fads and fashions that Lady GaGa inspires among young women, nothing has caught on quite like the huge doll-like eyes the pop star has in her Bad Romance video. Demand for the look is high. A tutorial posted on YouTube by a make-up artist has been viewed nearly 10 million times.
While GaGa's eyes were computer-generated, a similar look can be accomplished in real life with special contact lenses called circle lenses. The lens is much larger than usual with the colored portion covering part of the whites of the eye. They're not free. Circle lenses cost $20 to $30 a pair. They're not sold or regulated in the US. You can only get them online from other countries mainly in Asia. Dr. Rishi Singh of the Cleveland Clinic says "you really need professional who's trained in taking care of these contact lenses and fitting you properly for them before you start trying them."
If the lenses aren't fitted properly, or you get the wrong prescription eye doctors say any contact lenses can do some major damage. Dr. Singh says "it can cause scratches on the cornea and worse case scenario, they can cause ulcers and even blindness."
For those who hang onto every shred, and thread, worn by Lady Gaga, you might be better off going with the weird sunglasses.
