According to a press release sent out by Assistant District Attorney Neal Johnson, Smith signed a Notice of Withdrawal at 4:40 pm, Friday.
Johnson released this statement, along with the press release:
"I feel that Ms. Smith may have been operating under an incorrect interpretation of the law. I’m glad that she decided to do the right thing and withdraw. Court proceedings will be cancelled on Monday. The District Attorney’s Office is not in the business of determining the outcome of elections. Our only concern is to see that all candidates comply with the Election Code, after a proper complaint has been made. We felt confident that we had a very strong case heading into Monday’s hearing."
Johnson says the Notice of Withdrawal has been mailed to the Louisiana Secretary of State.
