How much does it cost to investigate suspended Monroe Police Chief Ron Schleuter?

The attorney who’s leading the investigation into Monroe Police Chief Ron Schleuter sent his final bill to the city of Monroe; it’s $60,890.43.

In a statement to NBC 10, a spokesman with the city says, “To date, the City of Monroe has incurred $60,890.43 in billed expenses associated with the investigation of Police Chief Ron Schleuter. These include all costs associated with the investigation led by Attorney Steve Oxenhandler (from the law firm of Gold, Weems, Sues & Rundell).”

Ever since February 16, Schleuter’s been suspended from his job as police chief, for secretly taping conversations with Mayor Jamie Mayo.

Ron Schleuter’s been off the job for about 5 ½ months, and earning nearly half his $102,000 salary by just sitting at home.

There’s no city policy that restricts the amount of time a city employee can remain on paid leave.

On Friday, Schleuter will learn if he will face disciplinary action in a meeting with the mayor.
