A man who pointed a gun and fired shots at two Monroe police officers will face at least 20 years behind bars.

It’s judgment day for Gilbert Tyler, who’s been found guilty of attempted first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

In 2008, two Monroe police officers went to Parkview Apartments on a complaint over a set of keys.

When the first officer approached Tyler, police say he ran away and pulled out a pistol, shooting at the officer five times.

When the chase continued outside the apartments, police say Tyler fired more shots at the officers.

The district attorney’s office linked Tyler to the crime, after finding his shirt and the smoking gun from the crime scene.

The maximum amount of jail time Tyler faces for both convictions is 100 years.
