Just 5 months ago, a large rainstorm caused this whole area to flood. All of the water came from up above the street-- a very steep hill that feeds into this area. The flooding not only threatened the project by causing the earth to shift, but also put a large crack in nearby Washington Steet. "There was a shift in the earth when we were doing construction and it made the wall shift some," said Kavanaugh Breazeale of the Army Corps of Engineers.  The Army Corps of Engineers designed this concrete wall which is reinforced by massive, 25 foot steel encased nails. It’s only been a week since they resumed the project and they’ll be working through lunch to have it done by the end of the weekend.
