Jury selection is
still going on in the trial of a former Winnfield police officer, who is
accused of killing a man with a stun gun in January of 2008.
Officials say the
judge hasn’t ruled whether the case will be tried somewhere else, although
jurors still haven’t been picked out after a week.
The sheriff of Winn
Parish says the district attorney has never asked for a change of venue as far
as he can remember.
Nugent is accused
of arrested Barron Pikes, and Tasering him several times with a stun gun after
Pikes was already in handcuffs.
The coroner of Winn
Parish ruled that Pikes died of cardiac arrest, caused by the stun gun shocks.
Nugent is charged
with manslaughter and malfeasance in office and faces up to 45 years in prison.
