A Monroe man, who tried to escape a safety check-point, is accused of nearly striking a police officer with his car.

Lester Jackson was arrested last night, after Monroe Police asked him to pull over for a sobriety test. Police spotted what looked like an alcoholic drink in the console, but police say Jackson drove away, almost hitting a Monroe police officer with his car.

Officials say Jackson drove against the flow of traffic, to escape the officers, and a chase ensued. Jackson is now charged with over seven different offenses, including DWI and aggravated assault.
