On Friday, freshman students at the University of Louisiana were giving away meals for those in need. The students are working with the Ouachita Council on Aging for the "Meals on Wheels" event.
The ULM students were hard at work, carrying around canned goods for the project. Barbara Michaelides, Director of Retention and Student Success Center, says this event is a community service project that has been put together by a university seminar class that all freshmen are required to take.
The class was made to raise awareness about the power of community service within a group. "A student will do his or her part," Michaelides said, " but then collectively since we have over a thousand freshman, we're able to make a bigger impact than one individual would on their own."
This is the 2nd year, ULM has worked with the Ouachita Parish Council on Aging for this project.
