Snow and ice skating are not a big part of Louisiana winters, but now you and your children can make it a part of your holiday plans.

The Children's Museum in Monroe is hosting Santa's Village, which includes an outdoor ice skating rink.  Inside the museum, some fun activities include the hourly snowfall and a chance to see Santa Claus.

As far as the ice skating rink, its not real ice, but it will still make you slip and slide, without having to brave the cold temperatures. "It is synthetic," said Spencer Ryan, Employee of the Children's Museum, "It's this plastic, we water it down with water and put this solution on it so the kids can glide on it. It is real ice skating shoes, we sharpen them everyday and it pretty much cuts through the plastic like butter."

During the weekdays, the Christmas Village is open from 5 to 8 p.m, Saturday's from 10 a.m to 5 p.m and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.  Admission is five dollars per person, and the event continues until December 17th.
