Monroe residents got a taste of a northern Christmas on Sunday. "The Festival of Trees" event kicked off at the Monroe Civic Center.
The trees included traditional Christmas themes, plus some LSU and monkey themes, as well. All of the Christmas trees will be auctioned off on Thursday. Children and families were welcomed to enjoy and view the trees over the weekend.
Officials say they were trying to give families, the feel of a winter wonderland. "We have people from all over the community that get together and celebrate the Christmas season, not just designers of the trees," said Patti Wilhite of Chairwoman Festival of Trees.
The Christmas trees were donated to the Twin City Ballet Company. The proceeds will benefit their "Buddy the Elf" Ballet performance on Thursday.
